I love that story. It captures so many of our first experiences trying to play the F chord. I wish someone would have told me I could have started with the FMaj7. I just sounded bad for longer :)
Thank you so much, Charlotte! I love being in the "let's just give this a try and see what happens" era of life. It's a lot less stressful! Love and hugs to you from me!
I really take it for granted that I can sing and play an instrument at the same time, but I really shouldn’t because I do remember the days when I couldn’t play three different chords in a row without stopping to see where my fingers were! Hugs to you, India!
I noticed that Diana Krall used to pause her playing when she sang , too. That may have changed now. Luckily I mostly play the saxophone, and my family are grateful that I can’t sing along 😉
Aw thank you Jeni — yes, as you know, pretty much all the chords I play are not actual chords but what I like to call suggestions of chords, often with dissonant notes in them — so I can totally relate to your eerie F chord!!
Seventeen children, or rather 16, from just two people!!!!! Wow…..we have 13 grandchildren but they arrived through four couples….. where did they all sleep, how did they afford to feed em all? People say these things but they they all did get fed didn’t they….and they all had a roof over them. I wonder how they all fared on their journey through life? They may never know they became the subject of a song…..I hope they all had happy and fulfilling lives.
You’re an inspiration Jeni, keep the tales coming 🙏
I really think of Aunt Laura as an inspiration. I wish I’d met her and been able to ask her so many questions. As it is, I talk to her through my imagination. She’s an important figure there. Thank you for always encouraging me, Jed!

Oh, that F chord! I used to substitute a D minor for it wherever I could, which is not everywhere, but Fmaj7 goes to some other places. :-)
So much love in Laura's song.
Hi, my name is Pete. I play an Em with one finger, E with two. 😉👌🏻🫶🏻
Super! I like this as few fingers as possible club!
I love that you are a recovering must-get-it-right-immediately person. I think that trips so many people up! This is such a fabulous post, as always.

Yes, and that attitude shows in the wonderful process posts you share on Insta and Notes.
Thank you, Charlotte! I love the process of things now!
I’m in awe of anyone who can play an instrument and sing at the same time…it’s like drawing and talking at the same time (I can’t do that either!)
I really take it for granted that I can sing and play an instrument at the same time, but I really shouldn’t because I do remember the days when I couldn’t play three different chords in a row without stopping to see where my fingers were! Hugs to you, India!
And wasn't it BB King who developed his unique style because he could not play and sing at the same time?
I noticed that Diana Krall used to pause her playing when she sang , too. That may have changed now. Luckily I mostly play the saxophone, and my family are grateful that I can’t sing along 😉
India! You play the sax? That is so cool! I keep telling my husband that I wish there was more sax and brass in music these days....
You could easily learn…the tenor sax is basically a big brass “recorder” with a bigger range and a reed. I love it.
I actually took recorder lessons as a kid, so that's very encouraging.
I didn't even know that. That's so cool.
This story gives me hope. Thank you. And I really liked your song about Laura.
I’m so glad, Sue. Keep going and make sure to be proud of yourself. I’m so glad you like Aunt Laura’s song. I love singing it.
What a great story! I wouldn't know an F from an E, but I always enjoy what you do because you are perfectly imperfect. I love dollies shoes too❤️
Aww, thank you very much, Amity, for always encouraging me!
❤️❤️❤️
@Sarah McQuaid I thought of you so much as I was writing this. ♥️
