I was going back through my emails looking for something else entirely and found this unopened one from you...complete with a song that I really needed to listen to this afternoon. The universe works in mysterious ways...

What a lovely boxful of Christmas presents, Jeni. Hugs to you and all the bears and dolls and friends (Pip sends hugs of his own -- he's started quite the hug revolution here in his new home!), and light and hope to you at Christmas and every day. Let us not lose hope, amen. ✨🎄💖

What a lovely song, Jeni! 🩵I think probably most of us know someone who loves to drive, but has had to stop for diminished health or vision reasons. I knew quite a few men of my father’s generation who tended to feel that getting in the car was their “independence,” and ability to go when and where they wanted. It was a real wrench to my Pop to have to stop driving. My brother would have driven him anywhere he wanted to go, but it just wasn’t the same freedom as being behind the wheel.

Now living in New Hampshire you can walk into woods and forests and find the stone walls which once kept sheep safe, we hope. There are photographs of land that was once farmed, and then turned over to sheep for the fast. 'easy' money (compared to working with the granite bolder covered land) and now left to trees.

It's similar where my grandmother grew up in Appalachia. All of the land was farmed and they could see all the way over to the next ridge. Most people had farm animals. Now it's thick forest and you could never walk to school the way that Mawmaw walked. Thank you, Simon.

That is an incredible song. So deep, so rich. And the back story. I hope we get to hear more from this project! Brilliant. And thank you for sharing you and your work. Best of wishes to you and yours this Holiday season.

Oh, Jeni, this is so lovely and meaningful, as always! My FIL has dementia and we had to take his car last summer as he was getting lost and it just wasn’t safe anymore. This post and song sums it all up. We wrestled with keeping his old jag for him to admire or selling it so he wouldn’t always be trying to find the keys. Perhaps we should have kept it so he could still dream at least.

Growing old is so hard but dementia is just so brutal for everyone.

Thank you yet again for sharing your sweet, sensitive way of seeing the world❤️

Thank you, Tina, for this story of your Father in law and his old jag. It's so very hard. As you say, every decision is difficult when you love people so much and you want them to be safe. I have an aunt who is still driving and her family are having to make this same decision. She's feisty and independent and, yet, she has dementia. Thank you for being such a thoughtful listener.

Quite wonderful, Jeni. I'm enchanted by your song stories and their deep roots. The dollies and bears are fun too, and I originally found your rabbit hole through fiber connections. .... Seasonal joys to you and yours. Keep hope alive!
