Hello there! Happy New Year to all. And welcome to my new subscribers. This year, I will be doing two things in my letters. Each month, I’ll write an essay about something that takes my fancy which could be anything from thinking about one of my songs to my great-grandmother’s quilts. My best loves are songwriting, family history, and making things.
I also had the Little Red Ridinghood rag doll and only recently parted with it. Kind of regretting that now. Thank you for the beautiful essay! Glad to be a new reader :)
Ah, Jeni! Made as New flooded me with memories of my Mammaw and Riverview Methodist Church. I couldn’t stop the tears. (I love the entire Picnic in the Sky album!)
My daughter had that very same red riding hood doll! She found the wolf a bit scary, as I recall. I had one called Poor Pitiful Pearl, who came dressed in a raggedy pair of black socks and a dress with patches on it. There was another nice party-type dress and shoes, and a little booklet that encouraged you to change her clothes and comb her hair. She looked quite different! I still have Pearl after 65 Christmases and it seems to me, at 73, that when we can create that kind of transformation in ourselves or anything else, that is one of the most wonderful things in life.
