I love the buttons - each unique now. Makes me wonder if there were five or six more fastening a garment in the past? My grandmother had boxes of stray buttons in the right hand drawer of her old pedal Singer. Wish I knew where they are now. Maybe someone is looking at them and speculating about the people in my family that they don’t and cannot know. Thanks for this intriguing story and video. And best of luck with your test!

It’s beautiful to imagine someone appreciating your grandmother’s buttons in the way I appreciate buttons which belonged to people I’ll never know. They are such a special window into the past. Love to you, Carol!

Confession. I am besotted with pearly buttons and have amassed satisfying numbers of them, though I once gave away a dress that was heavily embellished with them to a person who couldn’t afford it and (if I am honest) my bowerbird heart does have the occasional twinge of regret. I don’t remember the person but I hope she still likes it.

I love how you say bowerbird heart. This must be what makes me think about a knitted scarf I gave away in a rare fit of molting. I made it with the most gorgeous wool. I’m excited to see more photos of your animals. Your story about your grandmother taking her recipe to the grave was so striking I had to tell it to my Englishman.

I can see why that button video went Jeni-viral. It's lovely. And I'm SO excited that I can listen to your music on my Alexa. (Or whatever it's called--I don't know it's real name anymore!) I am sending strong study and focus vibes your way for the test. I have a feeling you're going to do well on it.

I had no idea there was such a thing as a Life in the UK exam. So jolly good luck when you sit it! You are a fount of knowledge, Jenni. I’ve learned numerous nuggets of information from you about your Appalachian childhood memories, thank you. I hope you will be singing a happy song when you pass muster🥰

Thank you SO much for your encouragement, Freda. I sit the exam on Wednesday of next week. So, I'll have my nose in the exam book until then. And thank you for reading along with me. It's a great joy to share my Appalachian childhood here. Hugs to you!
