Yes to a video on paper boat folding! And I think I need to make Chip a hat when I get home. Not sure if he'd keep it on for long, but he'd sure look jaunty in it. I love the detail about how the printers used to make these hats to keep the ink out of their hair.
Thank you very much indeed, Jeni! My granddaughters and I shall be making hats today! I have a memory from the early 1960s of seeing a house painter wearing a similar hat. Your boats are adorable too…I make slightly different ones, and shared them with my students during the plague, asking each person to send me a short clip of their boat , floating on some kind of water, with a tea-light inside. I asked my friend John Fohl (musician and songwriter based in New Orleans) to record music to accompany the video. It was a little vision of hope in a dark time. Maybe we need to do something like that again….
Thanks for refreshing my memory! My brother and I used to make these with one of our aunts and wear them when we were kids, but I had forgotten how. Now I can make them again!❤️
I’d love to see the boat folding recipe. They look like a dory and would suit Nova Scotia quite well. Also, did you know the end of the Appalachia mountains extends up through Nova Scotia?
Thank you for sharing your stories and writing. I really enjoy them. There are few news letters I bother opening or reading these days as my mail box is over stuffed every day. But I love yours and the dollhouse economy. Always worth taking the time to read.
Your dad sounds amazing and your homage makes me miss my dad too.
Tina! Thank you! You encourage me so much. I did know about the Appalachians going up into Maine, but not to Nova Scotia. I love knowing that. I've always wanted to get up to that part of Canada. I've been to Ontario, to Toronto, Goderich, London, and to teach at a camp in the north. I'd really like to go to Halifax and see Maud Lewis' painted house in the museum there. I love her paintings.
Right now I'm contemplating a one-piece doll undergarment in a vintage knitting book. I'm just interested to see how it comes out and how it's constructed, so I think I'll head downstairs and see what I can make of it. It would probably suit a doll in the Nova Scotia winter.
Thank you, again, for your comment. I really needed to hear what you've said today. I like to think our dads are having a great conversation about us right now.

Oh! Chip in a hat is a must!! :-) Hugs from here to there!

I’m so excited that you’ll be making them again! Hugs!
Loved watching both videos and will bookmarks this article for further watching and trying to make these. Thank you.
Thank you, Sue! I’m glad you enjoyed them. And once you get going, they really multiply. Lots of smiles.
