I can't get over the image of a little coffin just for a leg! And I love the image of Elsie Brown. The description of her reminded me so much of my own great aunt I couldn't help but see her as I read. Thanks for keeping whimsy in the world ❤️
My grandmother Izzy wore her nylons rolled down in a donut like that when she was just sitting around! I thought it was really something. She also used these big lethal hairpins to pin up her hair. And she carried a great big purse with real little straps. Must be Appalachian “things.” 😁
Oh!!!! I love that we share these Appalachian things! I always thought Elsie Brown could really wallop someone with that big purse with the little straps had she wanted to! 😂
I love this so so much. The lyrics, the stories, the oh so important refrain and maybe-most-of-all-or-at-least-right-up-at-the-top, your banjo. Thank you.
Aww!!! Thank you!!! I’m so pleased you’ve enjoy it. I must confess that I’m on xylophone and guitar this time around and my old duo partner and friend Billy came up with that fab banjo part. I loved it, too!
Oh Jeni, this is just the best. I had an uncle who had a hook for a hand (he scared me half to death). His wife shot his hand off during a drunken fight. Alas, I don't think he had a hand coffin! And now I'm going to spend the rest of the day trying to visualize the earth as flat. With the angels on all four corners, of course.
Charlotte!!! Your comment makes me think we must be related somewhere back in time. Our families could have had some interesting parties! I was reading about contemporary interpretations of that Bible verse and thought Pawpaw Avery would have just shook his head if he’d heard them and gone back to watching baseball. Hugs to you!

Wonderful stories as always. Thank you Jeni!

I’m almost positive we are somehow related! I’m still thinking about those angels. Hugs back!
